Warhol in NYC

Scenario

Joseph, Susan, Vivia, Sharon & I metup at Art Center (main campus) today and worked on our WearableTechLA presentation from about Noon – 6pm.

A scenario we developed was Walking New York City with Andy Warhol. The Silver Factory where he was shot… Max’s Kansas City where his relationship with Edie Sedgwick ended… the street where he ran in to Keith Haring chalking on the asphalt.

The Factory

The Factory was the name of Andy Warhol’s New York City studio, which had three different locations between 1962 and 1984.

The Silver Factory (where most of the famous things happened)
• Fifth floor at 231 East 47th Street, in Midtown Manhattan. 1962 – 1968

Union Square
• Sixth floor of the Decker Building at 33 Union Square West near the corner of East 16th Street, 1968 – 1973.

• 860 Broadway at the north end of Union Square. 1973 – 1984

Max’s Kansas City

Max’s Kansas City was a nightclub and restaurant at 213 Park Avenue South, in New York City, which became a gathering spot for musicians, poets, artists and politicians in the 1960s and 1970s. It was opened by Mickey Ruskin (1933–1983) in December 1965.
